Chris H - I voted for working to improve the current swing.

I do not have (read: make) the time to practice every day, let alone take a lesson every week. The best I can do is drop my wife off at her weekly soccer game and go to the nearby range for an hour.

I have not taken a lesson in three years; just practice the basics from prior lessons. Funny, I found some notes from my last lesson and tried them. What a shock; the instruction works! It finally makes sense to me! Unfortunately, it took me this long to understand. I feel like the math student who studies and finally gets the concept . . . one week after the test.

All I need is a "serviceable" swing - one that gets me around the course without getting into too much trouble and a respectable distance per club. I think I'm close right now, and I'd hate to have an instructor screw that up because I didn't fit into the mold of a tour model.

I go with method approach, easier to correct mistakes when coach isn't around.

At this point the way to go for me is adjustments to my current swing. I don't have the time to make a total change, I see a teaching Pro once a year for a tune up. I wish I could put 4 or 5 days a week in that would be needed to in grain a total change.

I've been playing golf virtually all of my life. Because of that, my natural swing is a pretty good swing. There are things I could do that would probably make it better and more consistent, but I refuse to do too much. I had a teacher one time try to completely change my swing. He was slowly changing every aspect of my swing. He was a pretty good teacher who had gotten good results from other players, but he was totally screwing me up. I quickly stopped seeing him and went back to my natural swing. Now I don't look for anything other than small tweaks.

Hi Chris, I am a teaching professional who believes that you, as the student, must seek out an instructor whose style matches your personality. This will require you to 'interview' a number of instructors to find the right one. It will be a worthwhile effort because, a bad match between you and your instructor can lead to a lot of frustration for you both. Good luck.

My teacher can watch me and know exactly what Im doing.

My dad taught me to swung the club and be aggressive. So I have always played that way. My teacher has refined that swing into how I play now.

Combination of age (late fifties), busy job with a lot of travel, and relatively short golf season mean, for all practical purposes, that a tour level swing just isn't in the cards. My focus for this year is a combination of better physical fitness and and better mental game, coupled with short game practice when time permits.

I'm a believer that there is no perfect swing, but rather swing keys. You can see on tour how many different swings there are.

Chris I didn't know how to vote so I'll just tell you how I go about getting professional help. I know where my game needs improvement. Right now I'd like to see higher ball flight from my driver. Track Man tells me that my face angle is at about 4-5 degrees at impact. I have tried various things to remedy the line-drive drives without any success. So I mentioned the problem to the head pro at my club and gave him a heads up on my next lesson. He knows that I don't like to hit range balls and that I want something that is easy to work into my swing, easy to remember, and something that solves the problem. I tackle one problem at a time, make the improvement, then move on to the next. The pro's that I have gone to have always liked the specific problem to solve approach. Good luck, I like your serious approach to the game.

I voted for working with my current swing.To me everyone's swing is unique ,not everyone has the athleticism of a tour player.Finding the right coach is not easy,some people do well with visual swing thoughts and having there swing captured on video helps them like Tyler was talking about..Me personally I am a feel type of player,set me in that position and give me drills to feel that position,this way I can work on my swing with drills to maintain my swing.I went through a total swing change along time ago and i struggled for along time,but in the end it was worth it.Just have to ask yourself what are you trying to achieve and what goals do you have in mind when seeking a swing coach.Don't forget to write down any questions you have for the person you are seeking to be your coach..

I do not have the time to devote playing and practicing to ingrain the the tour level swing. For me I have found that I am a very visual person and if I can see it (video) and be coached into the correct swing positions that I have an easier time incorporating the swing changes. Plus the video of me in to correct positions makes it easier to check down the road if I am making the appropriate swing.
