Not at all. I had a set of X31s that my dad got new in 1967. I used them between 1979-2006 and still hit them about the same distance (7 iron 150 yards > translates to hitting a modern game improvement 9 iron).
I have only seen them in black, but wouldn't mind seeing them in white. I just re-gripped my clubs with white ones, and absolutely love them.

I would definitely go in for a new fitting. Shafts do tend to wear out overtime from excessive use, and it sounds like yours may have. The guys can fix you up in no time, and you'll be back out on the course with more confidence.
