910Fd grip affect on weight

    I just received my new 910Fd. Since I'm 6'5" tall with large hands, I ordered it with a midsize grip after being fitted by my normal advanced fitter. Unfortunately, the club showed up with a standard grip. As expected, Titleist and my dealer are taking care of it. However, my question revolves around the weights. Titleist talks about building each club with a weight specific to the shaft, etc. Does this mean a different weight would have been used between a standard and a midsize grip? Should I expect a different feel? Should I expect any difference given that the midsize grip is a bit heavier?

    I doubt it really will matter, but I'm curious what the weights are really about.

    When a custom order is placed, we will not presume a swingweight unless specified.  We will build it to the our standard swingweight (D2-D4) as if it were placed with a standard grip.  When you change grips, as in changing to a midsize, it will normally make the swingweight one lighter.  We will not adjust that swingweight unless requested.

    This did not come up during my fitting, so I didn't think to ask. What would be the recommended weight to get the club back to the same swing weight I tested? Even with the grips being too small, I was loving how well the Fd was traveling. I assume I would have to get the whole weight kit to change things. Correct?

    For now, however, I'm still weighting on my new grip...

    It depends on which midsize grip you are ordering, but if it is within one swingweight, most players (including our PGA players) cannot tell the difference within one swingweight.  I would have the grips put on and if you and your pro decide a change is needed, please give us a call at 1-888-TITLEIST.

    Cathi- i find that interesting that if you go from a standard grip to a midsize it actually lowers the swingweight and makes it lighter.  I would have thought it would have been heavier... what does that mean for swingweight if you build up a standard grip with 4 wraps i would again think that adds weight and would not lower the swingweight.....

    Hi Keith,  Adding wraps or a heavier grip does add overall weight, but swingweight is different.  It is measured from a point about 14" from the butt end of the club so the heavier the butt end, the lighter the swingweight.  Hope that helps

    The new Winn grips add says "Go lighter", but when you do go lighter then you will increase the swing weight but decrease the overall weight. I do not know what these grips weigh in comparsion to most other grips but if you put a new lighter mid size Winn grip how would this work?

    Dear Dave: In my opinion the difference in weight feeling you will experience changing your grip will be very much the same as if you play without wearing a golf glove, in other words, you would not be able to tell any difference at all. Therefore, when changing an original grip your main concern should be comfort.
