  1. HPC: 15 (and lowering), Current irons: G5 with CS Lite steel Regular torques 1.8° 94g, custom lenght (I'm 5.57 feet) and undersize grips (aqua) Tested AP2 6 iron with True Temper Dynamic Gold Reg and Nippon NS Pro 105T Reg at the range today. Distance at approx. 155-160 yard range with both. Flight pattern approx. equal with both shafts (naked eye observation) and mayby little bit higher than with my G5. I'm not gaining any yards compared to G5s but AP2s seems to cure me from occasional hooks and pulls to left. To sum it up AP2 is straighter, more consistent and I like to sound, feel and feedback. Should I go True Temper Dynamic Gold SL or Nippon NS Pro 970 for lower weight or stick with stock shaft. Also I have set my eyes on Golf Pride Decade Multi-Compound grips, but I'm not sure if they are right fit. Any help appriciated.

Before you pick a shaft give the project x 5.0 a try. I have them in my AP2's. I'm about the same hpc and just love them in my AP2's. They are the best set of clubs I have ever hit. I once played the G5's and to me they are no match. Since getting my AP2's I am now a firm believer in getting the right shaft. I think in my set of irons the shaft has made a world of difference for me.

Timo, It makes sense that the AP2 would be less inclined to go the left with the two shafts you tested as the are heavier than a CS Lite, the 105T a little and the DG a lot. In addition the AP2 has less offset which helps also. I would normally have suggested the NS 970 shaft as it would most closely match the CS Lite, but as you were able to hit the AP2 higher than the G5 I would actually think the NS 105 or DGSL would be best. I have had had people say that the DGSL feels a little hard/harsh whereas I have had good results and feedback with the NS 105. I would say that it sounds as though the AP2's with the NS 105's would work best. Be sure to confirm length and lie so that you get best results. Ping STD length is 1/4" shorter than Titleist which at your height may be a factor. Have your local pro check length and lie at the very least, although I would strongly suggest a fitting to confirm all spec's. 4. Just a quick update. What can I say other than AP2's are amazing. I picked custom fitted clubs yesterday. Today I hit 40 points in first competition with AP2s in my bag. Higher shots, longer carry and less roll compared to old ones. Couldn't be happier with my purchase desicion.

Timo, well done. The advice you recieved for the Titleist people are great. they are true to the Titleist Brand but will give you independant and great advice when it comes to fitting and shaft selection. Hope you play well and improve fast now that you have bought proper clubs. G5's good for gardening. the day Lee Westwood realise that I 15 Pings dont have enough consistancy, maby then he will win some big events.

Good info ---- the AP2 are less off set than the G5 which might explain the straighter shots.... they are forged and the G5 are cast -- might explain your feel comments- no affect on ball flight.  Those two shafts are fairly similiar in weight, the NIppon might provide a slightly higher ball flight, but really your shaft decision will be more on your feel between the two.

  7. Thanks for all input. Excellent points regarding off set, weight and cast vs. forged. I was thinking along those lines and now I'm convinced. I hit a morning round with AP2 6 iron in my bag and used it every time I was around 5/6 iron range from the flag with excellent results. I did not miss any greens left side like I used to do and I reach greens with six where I have typically hit five iron this year. After the round, I went to local fitting center and we used flight scope. I tried PX5.5 (5.0 not available), KBS, etc. In the end of the day, stock dynamic gold was the best fit. Longest carry, avg. spin 5000 and shortest roll (little bit fade, but it was consistent across the hits). To cure my fade, fitter gave me tips regarding my right elbow path. Its still hard to get it to right path (I'm recovering from "iced" right scapulor shoulder blade, but thats another story) 1/2 inch shorter DG produced perfect lie angle (longest carry and avg. spinrate little bit over 5000) I selected Tour Velvet BCT Cord grips and I'll get the clubs later today. Tomorrow is the first competition whit new clubs.
