I have been playing for over 50 years, and came close a few times. I saw one hole on one but did not see the ball go into the cup because of the green undulations.
This March, I was playing in Florida and had played the same course a few times. As we walked up to the hole and figuring distances, wind, 175 yards would be the number. I picked up the hybrid and hope to land on the left edge between the bunkers. With the green sloping left to right, the ball should be near the front pin.
As I hit the ball, a solid hit, I am thinking this is the right shot. One of my partners is watching and says , this looks good. We both see it land left side, between the bunkers and heading to the pin. Then we hear a clink, look at each to see if we heard the same sound, and could not see the ball anywhere.
So we get to the pin, and the first player walks by the hole and says, it's on the right fringe. Before he gets too far, he says just kidding, it's in the hole !
I was happy to share with the group and got a good video.
A few weeks later, same course, had 3 birdies in a row, 3 feet, then 12 inches and the same hole ,missed it by 24 inches. Birdie juice was enjoyed.
