Hole 3 at Sugarloaf Golf Club in Carrabassett Valley, ME was playing 170 yards this day. This hole is straight with a slightly elevated green with a greenside sand trap before the hole on the left side. The pin location was middle left, baiting golfers to play over the sand trap. It started pouring just a few minutes before this so I had my rain jacket and hood up. Hit my 7 iron and the ball flies up towards the right side of the green drawing to the left side where the pin is. It has to make it over the green side sand trap, which it does just by a few feet, but lands on the green and bounces towards the hole. The ball is rolling on the green and then it disappears right by the flag. My brother was the only one I was with and he goes “I think that’s in” and I didn’t believe him but we were going nuts. Running around the tee box, we hop in the cart and fly up to the green and I run out to find the ball sitting in the cup. The ball rolled about 15 yards on the green and into the cup. An unbelievable shot that I’ll never forget.
