It depends on the course for me. I play a few hilly courses and walking them can wear you out. On a flatter course I usually play a little better walking it because I feel like my body stays loose because I'm always in motion. I usually only get to walk if I play by myself. All of the people I play with will not walk.

I prefer to walk but at my age and with all my old injuries, it's tough to go 18 sometimes. Typically I will always choose to be the passenger when using a cart so I can get out and walk a bit. Surprisingly it is also quicker pace of play.

10000% agree. Walking a course is underrated. It gives you an opportunity to really see the course from a whole entirely different perspective. I definitely feel more in tuned with my golf game whenever I walk.

I’ll take walking over riding any day.

I play about the same. I tend to walk more often at my home course so that I can get some cardio while I am playing golf.

I play on some pretty hilly courses. I prefer to ride, as i can rest a bit during shots or while waiting on a tee. Just my preference.

Had been a walker since I started playing in 1985. Was a killer when my doctors told me that it was time to hang up my carry bag and get on a riding cart. Hips, back and pulmonary issues have caught up with me. Life has caught up with me as well, Barry. I like to drive so I can control not running over any bad spots on the course that cause real bumps. Riding also allows me to keep up with everyone else, actually I am waiting on the walkers in our group. More pleasurable on the high heat index days in the south and allows me to play three days a week. You will know when it time to make the change.

Play better when I walk.. I can go directly to my ball..... I have my music (on low) and can enjoy the EVENTUAL BOGEY STOGIE. And I get 12-14000 steps in at Torrey!

Absolutely. I’ve found that I can process my next shot when walking. Opposed to when riding I get there so fast it feels like I’m not thinking through the next shot. Counter intuitively I feel like my riding rounds are longer with errant shots.

100% agree with this. I think part of the benefit is also being able to process the previous shot and then let it go to move onto the next one. I walk about 50/50 feel like I am more mentally involved and able to more quickly dismiss poor shots when I’m not in the cart.

I walk most of my rounds as the group I play with all walk. When not playing at our home course the walk/ride discussion depends on who is playing, whether or not the event is competitive, and type of course (length/hilly or flat/etc.)

As for focus, I don't really notice a difference based on walking or riding, for me.

Walking has so many benefits to your day. Its just an enjoyable way to play golf!

I prefer walking, but I'm getting older and have had some knee issues, so usually I'll walk one day and ride the next.

I prefer walking and do feel like I play better. And when a bad shot happens, there is plenty of time to forget about it while walking vs the quick drive. And now that I invested in an MGI cart, it is a lot easier on the hilly holes. Plus, I already pay enough in monthly dues and don't want to have to pay to ride on top of it.

Walked most of my life. Now since I'm a little older, I am pushing on the "I deserve to ride" to save on my aging bones. I do miss walking, but like to ride more now. hehehe.

I always walk unless I am in something (tournament) and they make you ride.

Golf is a walking game. There is no question, you play better when you walk. You can see and feel what your next shot is presenting to you. Your legs staying active helps them do a better job in your swing. Take a caddie if you can.

I'm back walking at my Club again after a "gap" year with rotator cuff surgery and a knee issue.

I like to walk, but with the heat & humidity in the Philly area during the summer months, riding is easier

I am more focus on my shots when I walk and it feels better .

I used to walk every round up to my early 20’s. Really helped me stay in the moment and focus on the next shot. Every now and then I’d take a cart if I was playing with my older brother or grandpa. Still able to focus on the next shot.
I stepped away from the game for 11 years and started playing again 2 years ago where I take a cart every time now. The club we belong to is very hilly and some steep paths. With bad knees and a lower back injury that flares up here and there, I take a cart every time. Plus it’s super convenient to just hop in a cart and go play a quick 9 after work. I’m more relaxed and don’t have to feel rushed speed walking to my ball. Can still focus on the next shot and breathe easier standing over the ball ready to execute. Can’t say which one is better, it’s all about what works best for you. If you enjoy walking and playing, great. If you enjoy riding, no problem. Just enjoy the game and stay in the moment.

If im with my friends then ride.
If im with strangers then walk.


But yes I think I play better when I walk.
