Which format do you enjoy most: scramble, stroke play, match play, or another format?

I’ll start. Match play is my go-to format when playing with friends. It adds a competitive element by focusing on head-to-head play rather than battling the course, and a bad hole never feels like it ruins the round since you can reset on the next tee. Whether it’s 1v1 or 2v2, a quick three-hole match, a 6/6/6 format, two nine-hole matches, or a classic 18-hole showdown, it always creates moments and stories you end up talking about long after the round is over.

Have to agree with Stephen it has to be match play. Our group play corners match play. 2 against 2 and change partners every six holes. It keeps everyone’s competitive edge on point. The winner then has to fork out his winnings for adult beverages after the round.

Our games are almost always stroke play. Usually 2 man, best ball/low total with one group I play with. They other group is usually 4 person teams with the best 2 in the group counting for the team score. Every once in a while, we play a skins game but that might be only a couple times per year.
  4. I have always loved match play, and it is also my preferred game. My regular group will mix it up with Wolf and our version of 6/6/6, total strokes, match play and finish with alternate shot.

We have one we use with 4 players which I'm not sure if it even has a name, or if it was already something and we just didn't know it.
We play 2 man best ball and the team gets one point for each of the first 6 holes, 2 for the next 6, and 3 for the last 6.

I have to go with "step aside" , really makes you put a lot of thought into shot choice.

We play 9 holes 2v2 match play and stroke. Winner of match gets 1 Point, winner of stroke gets one point, and winner of stroke as team gets another point. Makes it interesting.
