Ball number... 1-4 or 5-8???

    I have no preference, but buying balls from places like Edwin Watts or Golfsmith, I've never seen anything other than 1-2-3-4's in the boxes anyway.

    One time while waiting in line to check out at Golfsmith, I noticed some Titleists in a bucket by the cash register. They were apparently made for the Asian market and had double numbers on them like 22, 33, 44, 55, etc. I bought a couple 99's just for the hell of it.

    Number 1 gets lost really fast

    Number 2 doesn't hit as good as normal

    Numbers 3 & 4 play great

    I buy a dz balls I only get 1/2 dz good ones.

    I have no preference.  I mark my ball so the number to me makes no difference.

    I did 9s for a while then switched to regular high #s.  I was playing in a tournament a few years ago and hit a shot in the trees.  Went over to look for it and my playing partner found a red Titleist 8 which is what I was playing.  Go over to look for it and it wasnt mine.  10 yards over the guy finds another red 8, once again it wasnt mine.  Finally found mine in the same area.  Ever since we found 3 red 8s in a small area I went back to low numbers :)

    High numbers are great since at tournaments not many people have them so it helps to differentiate your ball!

    I like the high numbers for the same reason others stated not many people use them.

    I'd rather have the low numbers - I don't want any high numbers near me, on me, on my score card, or on my golf ball!!!

    I roll all 7s. Lucky #7! If you get them customized during Titleist's free customized ball promo you can pick one number or high numbers.

    The numbers on the ball really doesn't bother me all that much as long as it's a Titleist ball; numbers won't make the ball react to your shot but the ball will.

    So many different thoughts! I play Pro V1x high numbers when I can get them. Less chance of hitting a wrong ball (actually, I look for my marks near the numbers more than the number), and I'd rather have the high number on the ball than on the scorecard!

    The options have changed in the last 14 years since this thread was active. Custom numbers to 99 are now an option for the V and the X.
    I primarily buy optic yellow so I’m limited to 1-4 boxes.

    I order balls with the number 8 on them. Guess the one number I want to avoid. The dreaded snowman. Mainly, not a number that most golfers do not use. Found one on the course today, for the first time. Know it was not mine, because I also mark mine with three blue dots in a triangular shape.

    Number makes no difference to me. My baseball jersey number was 5, so if I had to pick it would be between that or 47 in honor of the year of my Mom's birth year.

    I buy low numbers. If I'm playing a tournament that means something, I only play the 1's or 3's in those competitive rounds. I've been doing that since college.

    I always mark my ball, so the number isn't really too relevant. That being said, when I place my preseason order, I tend to just get the low numbers. I have seen high numbers at the Superstore.

    High Numbers all day. I play 77 custom number for the but 3 get 4 free deal and high numbers for the rest of the season.

    I don't have a preference. I have 1-8s in my bag. I have custom ordered a few times, and still have some of those kicking around as well. Also, I have been buying matted orange Velocity balls lately as I find I get more distance, without sacrificing too much around the greens. They only come in double digits.

    Although I always mark my ProV1s, I ordered a couple of dozens a couple of weeks ago with lucky number 12.
